Christmas is around the corner! Wow, time really flies by. Since today is the first day of December, I think it would be perfect to share some Christmas drawings and craft that I did for my friend's daughter, Isabelle. We kind of celebrated her belated birthday this weekend by having a cozy craft party. Most of the Christmas ornaments were pre-made so there would not be a huge mess while dealing with a multiple of little kids :D. Making Christmas ornaments and colouring cards was simple and super fun! It would just need a little more time and care when rounding off the edges of the wooden sticks :) After all, who doesn't enjoy Christmas?
After the Kids Count Gala 2014, I was very fortunate to have the chance working with Kids Up Front again. The project this time was to create posters for their event sponsors to appreciate their support for the Kids Count Gala and Kids Up Front. I wanted to add some charm and personal touch to each poster while corresponding to the Kids Count identity since it is a gift. An Da la! The direction I decided to go with is to incorporating hand-lettering and illustrated type in it. It turned out was a fun project to work on. (I couldn't stop singing while I was working on it, haha.) I love the unique characteristics that hand-lettering could create.
Have a peek on the posters and comments are always welcome!:)
My first freelance work became a reality! Woo-Hoo! The Kids Count Gala 2014 was held on the Oct 30 at Devonien Garden at downtown. I had been working on this event collateral with board members of Kids Up Front for a couple months. It was really exciting when you could see your work being displayed and shown in a real event.
It was a great learning experience working with Kids Up Front. They are amazing people to work with and are always welcome to new concepts. We had worked hard together in order to achieve the best for this project! Here are some glimpse for the event photos. I have also updated this collateral on my portfolio website. Feel Free to check it out and check out what Kid Up Front has been doing.
Finally, Today is the Day! I am happy to say that my blog is now published on my website and I am really excited to keep updating my thoughts and inspirations about what I love: LIFE and DESIGN.
Maybe you would question what I have been doing after my graduation from ACAD. I had decided to give myself a break in order to consider what I really want to do for the future. In the middle of May, I spent two weeks touring in France, immersing myself in its mystique, its history, and its contemporary lifestyle. Then I went visiting my family and friends in Taiwan, my home country, for a month. After coming back from Taiwan, I started fixing my portfolio, organizing myself from the trip. Of course, I am not going to lie that I also spent time catching up with friends and having short road trips outside of Calgary.
Now, I am back to reality, working as a freelance graphic designer. Like other graduates, I am looking for a job in an design agency and hopefully I will be finding one soon. In the mean time, I also made some goals that I want to achieve. Some of these will be personal projects and different challenges that I gave to myself. The list will be in the next post, but I can tell you one right now.
1. Explore hand lettering with different tools as much as I could and post at least one on the blog every week.
I became interested in hand lettering and would love to get better at it. In order to motivate myself to explore hand lettering and to update my blog, I drew "Today is the Start” for the first blog post. :)
